Coolio and Lisa Loeb Face Off in '90s Trivia Game, Are Pretty Terrible
Aw, c’mon, guys! Nineties icons Coolio and Lisa Loeb faced off in an epic trivia game show challenge about the decade on the Today show on Thursday, Sept. 10 — but both of the big-name musicians struggled to remember some pretty basic facts from the funky era they helped define.
The singers, who will take part in Brooklyn’s inaugural 90sFest on Saturday, Sept. 12, paired off with anchors Willie Geist and Tamron Hall to duke it out over their ‘90s know-how in a men vs. women showdown, to surprisingly bad results.
“It was in 1996 that the Backstreet Boys put out their self-titled debut, launching the boy band craze,” stand-in game show host and longtime Today anchor Al Roker read for one question. “I’m going to name five boy bands from the ‘90s, you tell me which didn’t exist.”
The anchor then listed five possible answers: Boyzone, All-4-One, Five, Boy-Town, and LFO.
“LFO,” Coolio said confidently. The band’s name, which stands for “Lyte Funkie Ones,” made waves in the late 1990s with their hit “Summer Girls.”
“Boyzone,” Loeb guessed. The Irish boy band was perhaps best known for their singles “Key to My Life,” “So Good,” and “Picture of You.”
The correct answer was Boy-Town.

Coolio, 52, and Loeb, 47, also incorrectly guessed which actor played the lead role in hit TV show My So-Called Life and the name of Julia Robert’s character in Pretty Woman.
“You guys are doing great. Were you guys alive in the ‘90s?” Roker joked.
Coolio scored a Grammy for his hit, “Gangsta’s Paradise,” in 1995, and Loeb was nominated for a Grammy for her chart-topping 1994 hit, “Stay,” which as later featured in the film Reality Bites.
